Thomas D'Alessio

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tom's interests have ranged from the repair of a 1959 VW bus to music composition/performance, from counseling to carpentry, from leading Intensive Journal™ workshops to building computer networks, not to mention cooking, hiking, camping, bread-making and, of course, the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. He is one of the few people in the world in recent history to have taken four years of Latin in High School, played accordion since age three, or admitted either publically until now.

Tom received his basic training/certification in counseling from both the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and T.A. Associates/Milwaukee. He holds an M.Div. from Garrett/Evanston IL, and was a state licensed/ nationally certified Bodywork Therapist in practice for fifteen years. He received his training and certification to lead Progoff Intensive Journal™ Workshops from Ira Progoff, who developed the process. He is Core Integral certified (level one) through the Integral Institute. The Awakening courses grew out an integration of psychotherapy, spirituality, therapeutic journal methods, and forty-eight years of active practice as a counselor, therapist, and educator.

Jennifer D'Alessio

Over the past twelve years Jennifer has cultivated a workstyle that incorporates most of her passions along her journey through life. An intensive classical training in violin performance, starting when she was two and a half and through graduation from Eastman School of Music, has led to her current involvement as the fiddle/accordion player and vocalist in the Irish rock band, Hearthfire. With twelve years experience as a firefighter, EMT, Paramedic/Critical Care Paramedic, she continues to teach CPR and First Aid through the American Heart Association. Jennifer retired from her work in emergency medicine to pursue her passion for cooking, and finished her bachelor’s degree in Restaurant and Hospitality Management while driving from Wisconsin to California in a Smart Car. She has worked as a chef in restaurants, catered private events, and has taught cooking and wine classes. She maintains her certification in ServSafe Sanitation Manager food safety training.

In addition to cooking and playing music, Jennifer’s hobbies include cycling, hiking, skiing, gardening, reading, and scuba diving. Her most recent accomplishment in cycling was her first-ever century ride (100+ miles) in September 2020. She also satisfies her love of the outdoors with her job as a deck hand on the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences’ research vessel, Neeskay, where her cooking skills have become most welcome and appreciated.

Tom and Jennifer are a father-daughter team.
